The Strain: Mister Quinlan — Vampire Hunter #1

Revenge is a dish best served cold. However, if the dish is cold as well as old, will it still be tasty? Would you still want to eat that dish if it was centuries old? Well, apparently spoiled rotten revenge is still a delicious dish so long as it's served with blood. A new "vampire abomination" doesn't care about the expiration date on his dish of death. He's pretty determined to wait out the years to exact revenge on a fellow neck biter that has made him suffer as the undead, and his name is Mr. Quinlan. This gent is pretty determined to weather the storm of time, as he weathers the years long enough to carry out his mission when his target begins hunting him. Written by David Lapham with art by Edgar Salazar and Keith Champagne, The Strain: Mister Quinlan — Vampire Hunter #1 (JUL160088) is in the Dark Horse Comics section of PREVIEWS.

Mike Wolfer's Crypt of Scream #1

Horror comics creator Mike Wolfer has spent a lot of time crafting inventive ways to make people scream in between the pages of comics like Friday the 13th, and Daughters of the Dark Oracle. He's really good at it. You might even say he enjoys it TOO much as evident by the new stories he's created for Mike Wolfer's Crypt of Scream #1 (JUL161210) that he's released through American Mythology Productions. Truth is, Mike's old school. He's a softie for nostalgia, and that's why this new book is printed in black and white to emulate the classic horror tales you used to see in those 1970s Warren horror magazines. Mike let's it all hang out in this Mature Readers title that gives us the best of both worlds: unflinching brutal horror stories written and drawn by Mike which harken back to the feel of those newsprint tales of terror you craved every month at the drug store. You know. Before Atari was in every household.

Gallery of Horror #1

We were't exagerrating when we said that Mike Wolfer was an old hand at making your mummified when the monsters break into your bedroom. Whereas most kids like to read Little Golden Books at night, Mike was obviously strapped to soaked sofa and make to hear horror stories from numerous issues of EC comic books. The man is a walking gallery of horrific pictures that would make most people opt for the padded room, or reinforce their doors with multiple padlocks and chains. To attest to the number of putrid pictures capable of coming out of Mike's brain, we once again give the devilish dude of death his moment by calling out his Gallery of Horror #1 (JUL161755) he releases through his own company, Mike Wolfer Entertainment. It's an all-new, full-color pin-up book that you'll find in this month's Comics & Graphic Novels section.

Zack, The Zombie Exterminator

Around the same time that Mike Wolfer was making small children run crying to their parents from having been traumatized by his Widow comics, a fellow by the name of Brian Pulido was also walking lockstep in the march for murder, as he was tearing things up with his creator-owned Chaos! Comics company, that gave us books like Evil Ernie and Lady Death. Well, Pulido is back with his new company, Coffin Comics, and he's bringing out of the trailer park some new guy who appears to be your only hope for avoiding the zombie apocalypse. In Zack, The Zombie Exterminator (JUL161452), we see a redneck metal head gain social media fame with his talent for zombie-splatting. The question is, can his gory mayhem on ViewTube translate into real survival skills when it comes to combatting the ancient evil that's responsible for the plague of the undead? Find out in this month's Comics and Graphic Novels section!

Evil Dead 2: Revenge of the Martians

It's appropriate that we were mentioning the legacy of 90s horror stalwarts like Mike Wolfer and Brian Pulido in this article, as the last book we want to touch on stars the character that transcended horror, and became the new face for horror/fantasy with the 1992 release of Army of Darkness. We're talking, of course, about Bruce Campbell's chainsaw-wielding character, Ash, who is now at the forefront of his new comic for Space Goat Publishing with the release of Evil Dead 2: Revenge of the Martians (JUL161892). If you think you've seen it all, then you're wrong. Imagine a mash-up of Ash and War of the Worlds. Writer Ty Templeton has put H.G. Wells' infamous Martians into a blender with Ash, and hit "liquify." Check out this one-shot to see how Ash is now an Uber driver, who tries to combat the Deadite invasion from reviving the long-dormant Martians!

You can find all of these comics in the July edition of the PREVIEWS comic shop catalog!
