Warner Bros.’ Joker continued to dominate the awards scene by earning 11 Academy Award nominations, which were announced on January 13.

The film captured nods for Best Picture (the second time a comic-inspired film has attained that distinction, following Black Panther), Actor in a Leading Role (Joaquin Phoenix), Director (Todd Phillips), Adapted Screenplay (Todd Phillips & Scott Silver), Film Editing (Jeff Groth), Cinematography (Lawrence Sher) and Original Score (Hildur Guðnadóttir).

The film also earned technical nominations for Costume Design, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling.

Other genre blockbusters recognized by the Academy included Avengers: Endgame, which took a nomination for visual effects, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which was also tapped for Visual Effects as well as Original Score for composer John Williams. (The nomination is Williams’s 52nd, the highest number for a living person. Walt Disney holds the record with 59 nominations.)

The 92nd Academy Awrds Ceremony will be held on February 9.
