Joker Sets Records With Golden Globes Wins
Jan 06, 2020
Joker made Golden Globes history on January 5 with two wins at its annual ceremony, the most of any comic book-based film in the history of the awards.
Joaquin Phoenix earned one Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama, while composer composer Hildur Gudnadóttir captured the film's other trophy for Best Original Score — Motion Picture.
This marks the second time the character has garnered a Golden Globe for his portrayer; Heath Ledger won a posthumous Golden Globe trophy for playing The Joker in The Dark Knight in 2009.
Gudnadóttir’s win also marked another historic distinction: the first Golden Globes solo win for a female composer.
The film began the evening with four nominations — including Best Motion Picture — Drama and Best Director — Motion Picture — the most Golden Globe nominations for a comic-based movie since 1990s Dick Tracy commanded the same number. It has earned more than $1 billion worldwide, making it the most successful R-rated film of all time.
