"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" Wins Golden Globe For Best Animated Feature

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse claimed its first major prize of award season Sunday night, winning the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature.

For just the third time since the award was introduced in 2007, a Pixar film did not win.

On stage, the movie's creators thanked Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, the creators of main character Miles Morales.

"Anyone can wear the mask; everyone is powerful and everyone is necessary, and that is the spirit of the movie," said co-director Peter Ramsey backstage. "We all felt deeply that anyone can have this kind of experience and be this kind of hero. The story of Miles Morales was a way to crystallize all of those feelings into one character."

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse beat out Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Isle of Dogs and Mirai.
