Image Comics' 'Prince of Cats' Gets A Movie Adaptation
Aug 04, 2018
Deadline.com has announced that graphic novelist Ronald Wimberly's Prince of Cats -- a reimagining of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet -- is being developed into a feature film. Legendary, the production house behind the upcoming Godzilla: King of Monsters, secured the feature rights earlier this week and has already revealed that Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Sorry To Bother You) will star.
Released through Vertigo back in 2012, Prince of Cats is a hip-hop-infused alternate take on The Bard's classic tale. Artist and writer Ronald Wimberly (Black History In Its Own Words) remixes events by focusing on Tybalt, Romeo's main opposition. Mockingly referred to as the "Prince of Cats" in the original play, Wimberly's Tybalt heads up a street gang in a futuristic Brooklyn (by way of the 1980s).
Prince of Cats (DEC160626) is currently published by Image Comics and is available at comic shops now.
