For The Comics Journal #237, the staff turns over the tight
editorial reins to respected comics professional Mary Fleener, who has put
together not only a retrospective look at women comic creators, but a look at
new and developing talent and updates on established cartoonists. The 60
self-portraits that make up the wraparound cover display the diversity of the
issue and will put to rest the notion that comics are strictly a "boy's club."
Women artists, and those who support them, are re-defining comics and attracting
interests from all areas, including the marginalized, the mainstream, and the
media. As you will soon see, the future of the industry may very well rest upon
the current Renaissance of Women comic artists. The Comics Journal once
again redefines the industry!
