For months, Hake’s Auctions has been teasing the incredible Jeff Jacob Collection of Star Wars, G.I. Joe, and more related toys. Jacob’s collection, which he amassed over 33 years, represents some of the rarest and highest graded examples of action figures, vehicles, playsets, and more from the most popular toy lines of the late 1970s and ‘80s. Now, the first group of 435 lots from his collection are open for bids at Hake’s Auctions.
Star Wars is the undisputed leader of Jacobs’ collection, and Hake’s pulled out all the stops for this group that begins a series of auctions. The Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi 12-back-A AFA 85 double-telescoping figure with the SKU on the footer is currently leading the auction. This is an early example of the Ben Kenobi figure with the original double-telescoping lightsaber that had a second extendable piece. Only two carded double-telescoping examples are known in this high grade, and of those two, the one offered by Hake’s will make history as the first to appear at auction.
The Star Wars early bird mail-away kit AFA 85 includes double-telescoping Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and R2-D2. The kit is offered with the original white mailer box, vacuform plastic tray, a baggie with plastic pegs for posing figures, mini-catalog advertising the Star Wars action figure line and vehicles, and a mail-away offer for the corresponding stand.
The Empire Strikes Back 4-LOM 48-back-A AFA 60 is the rarest Kenner Star Wars production figure and one of just four graded by AFA. It is notable for being on a 48-back-A with no pre-figure offer sticker, as opposed to the more typical type on a 48-back-C card with an Admiral Ackbar offer. This is the first time Hake’s has offered it.
The complete Power of the Force base set contains 62 pressed aluminum coins, measuring 1-1/2 inches in diameter. Each of the set’s coins is graded AFA 85 NM+ and originally came directly from a former Kenner employee. Hake’s believes this may be the first time a complete AFA-graded collection of this type has been sold as a whole.
The Cantina Adventure Set AFA 85 is a Sears exclusive with none higher in AFA’s population report. The set contains bagged figures of a very hard to find blue version Snaggletooth, Greedo, Hammerhead, and Walrus Man, as well as mailer boxes for the figures, a sealed bag of pegs, a cardboard backdrop, cardboard inserts, in-package catalogs, and assembly instructions.
Action figure highlights continue with a Boba Fett 21-back-B AFA 85, The Power of the Force Nikto 92-back with Warok coin AFA 85 (Australian issue), Star Wars: Droids Boba Fett AFA 85, and Lili Ledy El Regreso Del Jedi/Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker (Bespin fatigues) 30-back AFA 80.
Additional rarities in this auction are the Hero Set 3-pack Series 2 AFA 85 with Luke (X-Wing pilot), Ben Kenobi (white hair variety), and Han Solo (large head variety), Boba Fett 12” Series AFA 85, a department store catalog multi-pack mailers display AFA uncirculated U85, and a Darth Vader TIE Fighter (special offer) AFA 80 (battle scene setting).
The Jeff Jacob Collection auction is open for bidding now through Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
