Interview: Kill Bill Meets Clash of the Titans in HUNT. KILL. REPEAT.

Interview by Troy-Jeffrey Allen

HUNT KILL REPEAT from Mad Cave Studios

From Mark London (Battlecats) and newcomer Francesco Archidiacono comes Hunt. Kill. Repeat, a Tarantino-styled mythological ride (yep, you read that right) where revenge is definitely on the menu! If you like your gods with a side of vengeance then you won't want to miss this.

PREVIEWSworld talked with writer Mark London to find out more.

Troy-Jeffrey Allen: Let’s start off with some insight into Mad Cave first. You’re a writer at Mad Cave, but you’re also the CEO and Chief Creative Officer. So, tell us, what is the creative goal of Mad Cave studios?

Mark London: Stories that expand your mind and entertain, but also pack a lot of heart. Relatable characters, bombastic action, and stories that resonate with audiences. Most importantly, quality has to be at the forefront of each title we release. It has to be the best possible comic out there. That's what we want.

TJA: Hunt. Kill. Repeat. is your most recent title, but you have a few other collected editions with Mad Cave. For those not familiar with your work, what can you tell us about Mark London the writer?

ML: When Mad Cave was starting out, I was the one writing the books that the company launched with. Battlecats, Midnight Task Force, Honor and Curse, Knights of the Golden Sun and Wolveheart were the first four titles announced by Mad Cave and I couldn’t be prouder.

TJA: Let’s get into Hunt. Kill. Repeat. Catch us up to speed. What is the story about?

ML: Badass Greek Gods and Goddesses. It’s Kill Bill/John Wick meets Clash of the Titans. Without spoiling it, the almighty Zeus takes over the earth with his children and enslaves humanity. Artemis, his daughter, eventually decides that she wants no part of what Zeus has accomplished and is punished for it. This puts Artemis on a path of revenge against her siblings and her father.

TJA: What can you tell us about Artemis? Why is she so hellbent on taking down the gods?

ML: A couple of reasons actually. Since I don't want to spoil anything, all I can say is that she felt betrayed by her own ideals. To make matters worse, once she found a new purpose, it was ripped away from her by her own family.

TJA: What made you want to set this story around Greek mythology?

ML: I was tinkering with the idea of a revenge story that I really wanted to write. So I pitched it to Mad Cave’s Publisher, Chris Fernandez. We started talking about different possibilities or scenarios, and I guess that our passion for Greek mythology took over. I kinda merged the two things and spat out Hunt. Kill. Repeat.

TJA: Is this more of a revenge story than a classical take on Greek mythology? Or is it both?

ML: It’s both. When you delve into Greek mythology or even Norse mythology, something becomes clear–Drama! Tragedy that resembles what we experience in our daily lives. The gods may be all-powerful and mighty, but they are flawed, just like us. So this story, although it's bombastic and full of action, at its core, has very personal and emotional elements to it. A dysfunctional family is brought to the forefront of a revenge tale of epic proportions.

TJA: Tell us about your collaborators on the book. What made Francesco Archidiacono and Marc Deering the right artists for the job?

ML: Chris Fernandez (Mad Cave’s Publisher) has an impeccable eye for talent, and when he showed me Francesco’s work, I fell in love with it. Then he recruited Marc Deering for his inking expertise and it was the perfect recipe for success. There was clearly no other team for the job. If you’re impressed by the teasers we’ve shown so far, wait until you get the actual book in your hands! I couldn't be happier that Chris was able to bring Francesco and Marc on board… not to mention getting Lee Loughridge on colors and Rus Wooton on lettering duty.

TJA: In terms of audience, who would you say Hunt. Kill. Repeat. is for?

ML: For fans of action/adventure, over-the-top action, and drama! This might be a revenge story, but it is so much more than that. If you like classic action movies and any sort of mythology, this one’s for you.
