Interview by Troy-Jeffrey Allen
Kadath is a place of fantasy and imagination..but also home to unimaginable monsters!
Based on H.P. Lovecraft's The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath, Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath comes to you courtesy of Ablaze. Inside, dreamland traveler Randolph Carter navigates the home of the gods. And in true Lovecraftian fashion, this journey will be rife with wild geography, abominations, and cosmic terror.
A comic book adaptation of this magnitude requires an artist that is willing to dive into the mouth of madness. In the following interview, Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath's cover artist, Jacques Salomon, takes us into the nightmares of dreamland.
Firstly, who are you and where do hail from?
I am Jacques Salomon, a Frenchman who is lucky enough to live on a small island in the Mediterranean, Mallorca.
What can you tell us about the story behind Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath?
It is an atypical work within the vast Lovecraftian universe. An adventure in the classical sense, a true roller coaster that catches you from start to finish.
How did you go about designing the look of Kadath?
Translating into images what Lovecraft exposes in his novel is a real challenge. It has been a team effort. We needed three heads to carry it out.
How did you get into comic books as a fan?
I fondly remember my first summers on the island. Instead of ice cream I bought comics. Those adventures caught me and I continued devouring all the ones that fell into my hands.
How did you get into comics as a professional?
This has been my first serious foray into the comic industry, and the gateway to this world as a professional.
What tools do you use to ink?
From the sketch process to the final panel it has all been done digitally.
What’s next for you?
Right now I'm working for Boom Studios, and I hope to be able to collaborate again with this incredible team.

Randolph Carter, a traveler to dreamland, tries not to wake up before reaching his goal, the elusive Kadath: the home of the gods, a place of fantasy and overflowing imagination. Carter walks through a world full of threats and abominable monsters, but also of palaces, exuberant cities, and geographies that remind man of his insignificant role on the gigantic cosmic chessboard.
What are the reasons to keep going when everything around us is terrifying and lethal? Kadath may offer some answers to this question!

His fondness for cats may prove to be the only thing that can save Randolph Carter from the increasing number of nightmare creatures that are not only trying to prevent him from reaching Kadath but keep him permanently trapped in their hellish environs. And once his feline friends intervene, he finds himself yet again on his journey, not knowing which humans he can trust.
