Get Graphic: Guillermo Sanna on 'Lovecraft Unknown Kadath'
Aug 22, 2022
Interview by Troy Allen
PREVIEWSworld is ABLAZE this September!
LOVECRAFT UNKNOWN’s Guillermo Sanna talks with PREVIEWSworld about a rarity in terms of H.P. Lovecraft adaptations. The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath is not as well known as In the Mouth of Madness or The Colour Out of Space, but it still has all the Lovecraft staples: dreamlands, gods, abominable monsters, and cosmic proportions.
Find out more about this new title coming from Ablaze this September. Keep reading...
Firstly, who are you and where do hail from?
My name is Guillermo Sanna and I was born in the wonderful island of Mallorca.
What can you tell us about the story behind Lovecraft Unknown Kadath?
It's a great adventure, unusual in Lovecraft's work. It is curious but there are many Lovecraft readers that never have read this story.
How did you go about designing the look of Kadath?
It was an exciting challenge. Lovecraft's descriptions are not easy to put on paper but I am very happy with the final result.
How did you get into comic books as a fan?
The first memories as a reader of comics are devouring The Adventures of Tintin and Asterix, but the truth is that I enjoyed any comic that fell into my hands. As a teenager, I was able to buy my first Creepy Magazine and I quickly fell in love with the horror genre.
How did you get into comics as a professional?
I spent many years showing samples to editors without any luck until I drew Straitjacket, a comic by El Torres. From that publication, and with the help of my agent, Joaquin Garcia, I was able to start working on Marvel's Deadpool.
What tools do you use to ink?
The first issues of Kadath are inked with a brush, but I currently work with a graphic tablet.
What’s next for you?
Besides my work for Marvel, which includes series such as New Mutants and Star Wars, I hope that another comic with the “Kadath team” will see the light soon.

Randolph Carter, a traveler to dreamland, tries not to wake up before reaching his goal, the elusive Kadath: the home of the gods, a place of fantasy and overflowing imagination. Carter walks through a world full of threats and abominable monsters, but also of palaces, exuberant cities, and geographies that remind man of his insignificant role on the gigantic cosmic chessboard.
What are the reasons to keep going when everything around us is terrifying and lethal? Kadath may offer some answers to this question!
