Star Runner Chronicles: Fallen Star – Origins of a Sci-Fi Saga
Sep 28, 2021
Launched a little over a year ago, Star Runner Chronicles: Fallen Star has quickly gained popularity as a “must-read” digital comic for serious sci-fi fans. This month, in response to its growing fanbase, Atlantis Studios is releasing the entire first series in trade paperback, available to pre-order in October Previews.
Star Runner: Fallen Star introduces the reader to Aurora Palmer, a rebellious teen girl with a mysterious past and unpredictable powers she cannot control. The discovery of a mysterious, long-hidden spacecraft in the nearby woods creates a flare-up of her long-hidden powers, and she is forced to discover the truth behind her origins before it is destroyed forever!
Adapted from the screenplay by James Watson and Charlotte Stauffer, Star Runner Chronicles: Fallen Star embraces its cinematic inspiration. In an interview published this summer, Watson explained the story’s origins: “I used to spend long summers in the woods of Southern Maine, where my room looked out over a field into the dark forest and the bright stars of the night sky. I drew upon the films I loved, from Escape to Witch Mountain to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, about ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances.”
It is the cast of relatable characters – caught in incredible events - that critics have pointed to as the strength of the Fallen Star series. Jake Palermo of Gutternaut.net labeled the book an “Epic Sci-Fi Carrie”, praising the series for its “…complex network of characters with layers, storytelling designs, inspiration, and more. Everything the creators put into this mini-series makes this a masterpiece...”
As for the series heroine, Watson commented, “Aurora is a normal teen who learns that she’s different from everyone else. She must face incredible obstacles to discover the truth of her origins, then use her gifts to defend her friends and ultimately embrace her destiny. She’s impulsive and imperfect, like any teenager, so these decisions are sometimes wrong. Her abilities make her dangerous, so she must face the serious consequences of her mistakes.”
The Star Runner Chronicles features a supporting cast that helps Aurora in her journey, often challenging their genre tropes: the gossipy cheerleader who’s an engineering whiz, the astronomer scientist who also hunts for alien artifacts, and the manipulative villain who appears as more of a “mother figure” than Aurora’s deceased parents.
The Star Runner Chronicles are just beginning. A new series Dark Star has just been completed, and a feature film is in development. The Fallen Star graphic novel comes in an attractive perfect-bound book, adding 20 pages of extra content, concept art, and series background just for fans.
If you’re a fan of thought-provoking science fiction, romance, and action-adventure, the Star Runner Chronicles: Fallen Star is a book you want to add to your collection! Find out why critics have called the series "...refreshingly fast-paced, and hinting at a deeper cosmic mythology… a new take on the sci-fi superhero genre."
