DC Will Never Publish Tim Vigil's Batman...But We Can Look!

Are you familiar with Tim Vigil? I am. Particularly, I have very distinct memories of going to the local comic shop in the 1990s, seeing Vigil's FAUST on the shelf, and constantly trying to sneak peeks underneath the cover. Why? Well, despite the fact that I usually rolled into my comic shop without parental supervision, I was enough of a teenager to fear getting caught by the store clerk looking at FAUST, Vigil's comic that was rife with images of hell, demon women, and satanic orgies. Despite only really experiencing FAUST through quick, guilt-riddled glances, I also remember the insane, grotesque, visceral illustrations that I could see. That level of detail is hard to forget. And a fairly recent episode of Cartoonists Kayfabe brought back all those memories...

Around a month ago, Cartoonist Kayfabe unearthed Tim Vigil's Batman bootleg comic (above) and exposed it (and I do mean "exposed") to the world. Needless to say, this is not nor was it ever intended to be an official DC Comics release. Seemingly, Vigil made this as a goof (a "parody," if you want). He never pursued financial compensation for it and he never even bothered approaching DC with it.

One look inside and you'll understand why. This nearly full-length comic has all the Vigil staples that I remember from my days as a hormonal teenager. Needless to say, this is not for the easily offended. And if it does offend you, just understand that this is just a snapshot from a period of time. It's art. It's history. And neither art nor history is going to be palatable to everyone. You were warned.

If that didn't scare you off, then I recommend you get a full view of the Vigil's Batman pages in the video below. And if you want to find out more about Vigil's work, the folks at Cartoonist Kayfabe also did a "shoot interview" with the artist. You can also check that out in the video below, followed by some of Vigil's more recent work. Available now at your local comic shop.
And be sure to give Cartoonist Kayfabe a follow. You won't regret it.
