It's official! Heavy Metal Magazine -- a publication that's inspired artists in every industry (fight me!) -- has crossed the threshold to 300! And PREVIEWSworld could not let this headbanger's ball pass us by without acknowledgement.

For the last few weeks, we've focused our ongoing Got It Covered column exclusively on Heavy Metal 300. Already we've talked with cover artists Augustin Alessio and Claudia Iannicello. Now, we're rounding things off with Glenn Fabry (Preacher). Fabry talks about his work on the 300th issue, shows us the artistic process behind his cover, and more.

Keep scrolling.

PREVIEWSWorld: What was your first experience with Heavy Metal magazine?

Glenn Fabry: I was 16-years-old and in a comic book shop called 'Dark They Were and Golden Eyed’, when I first saw HM. The cover ws amazing, so I looked inside. It was the first time I had seen work by Moebius, and Den by Richard Corben. The Den story was called 'Neverwhere,' and I ended up working on Neil Gaimans Neverwhere for three years. The artwork blew my tiny teenage mind.

PREVIEWSWorld: How did you get involved with Heavy Metal 300?

Glenn Fabry: [Lovecraft Country storyboard artist] Frank Forte contacted me over the internet, and said, 'How do you fancy doing a cover?' I replied, 'Sure, why not?' Who wouldn’t?

PREVIEWSWorld: What classic Heavy Metal character does your work feature?

Glenn Fabry: Taarna!

PREVIEWSWorld: What were you trying to convey with this image?

Glenn Fabry: I wanted to do something that would be impossible to get photo reference for. Which is why it took so long!

PREVIEWSWorld: What medium and tools did you use on the cover?

Acrylics, Prisma colour pencils, toothbrush and Bristol board.

PREVIEWSWorld: What was the challenge when putting together your cover?

Glenn Fabry: I had to do something that wouldn’t look impossibly shabby compared to the other great artists that have worked on Heavy Metal covers before. As for the artists, there are too many to mention.
