Staff Picks (December): The Best Of Alex Toth And John Buscema’s Roy Rogers Comics HC

Article Image 95ad

My heroes have always been cowboys, if not superheroes, and sometimes those cowboys even sang. On Saturday morning and after school there was the Cisco Kid and Pancho, the Lone Ranger and Tonto, and the king of the cowboys, Roy Rogers. If it was on TV, then you know Dell Comics did a comic book featuring those shows and characters. While the Lone Ranger was my Batman of the west, Roy Rogers with Dale, Trigger, and Bullet was the cowboy Superman, a true boy scout.

Hermes Press's The Best of Alex Toth and John Buscema’s Roy Rogers Comics exclusively features the work of comic book legends Alex Toth and John Buscema. Each story was handpicked by Roy's son, Dusty, and include his favorite stories. Featuring over 256 pages of comics this book brings together not only the best western tales of America's favorite cowboy as illustrated by two of the Silver Age's most important artists, Alex Toth and John Buscema. This edition also includes original artwork, documentary material, an introduction by Roy “Dusty” Rogers, Jr., and an extensive essay.

This book provides a welcome companion to Hermes Press' definitive reprint of the Roy Rogers newspaper strip, Roy Rogers King of the Cowboys: The Collected Dailies and Sundays.

Cue the music and a Happy Trails to You, hopefully to your comic shop for The Best of Alex Toth and John Buscema’s Roy Rogers Comics.
