Irregular Passports Travel Through Laguardia

Article Image ad20

Immigration is polarizing topic. So is relationships with plant life. You could be seen as crazy, or enlightened depending on who you talk to, but in Laguardia #1 (OCT180292) from Dark Horse Comics it's just a day in the life.

See, it used to be that mixed marriages were the ultimate taboo. Especially when you got on the subject of children. Now that debate takes on a whole new meaning in Laguardia by Nnedi Okorafor, in which aliens have come to Earth and integrated with society.

It is a world that is both familiar, and foreign. We follow the life of a pregnant Nigerian-American doctor who has smuggled into the country a sentient illegal plant. Once settled in the New Hope Apatments in the South Bronx, she and her alien plant life are content to asimilate into the growing population of African and shape-shifting alien immigrants. But when a life is started under the cloud of secrecy, do you really expect safety in the shadows to be permanent? At some point, the light of truth peers into darkness. In the case of our heroine, Dr. Future Nwafor Chukwuebuka, it is her pregnancy that will be compromised. A dark secret may emerge. If it should happen, even this alternative world could shatter.

Laguardia #1 (OCT180292) arrives in comic shops December 5.
