James Bond 007 #1 (SEP181041) is in comic shops November 7.

**********

D.E.: Who is James Bond, to you?

Greg Pak: Bond is the consummate ruthless professional. He's suave and sharp and always up for some fun, but he's always focused like a laser on his mission, and will do whatever it takes to finish the job, no matter what. His incredible skills and ingenuity and the professional pride he takes in all of the savory and unsavory aspects of his job make him ridiculously fun to watch — and write!

D.E.: This is the first modern-day ongoing Bond series in several years. Can you tell us about Bond's mission in this series, and who his mysterious co-star is?

Greg Pak: Bond's mission is to track down a Russian smuggler who's trying to deliver a mysterious silver briefcase to a terrorist organization known as DRU. But there's another secret agent on the job —an incredibly dangerous Korean assassin who wears a distinctive bowler hat that might just remind readers of the classic Bond villain Oddjob.

But our new mystery man is a new character with a distinct personality and mission. He's just as ruthless and skilled as the original Oddjob. But he's an even greater challenge to Bond, with his own personal stake in the game. If Bond's driven by professionalism, our new man's driven by passion, which makes him unpredictable, dangerous, and huge amount of fun. He might end up being Bond's most lethal enemy — or most compelling rival.

D.E.: Who's the rest of your creative team, and what are they each bringing to the series?

D.E.: Marc Laming is drawing, and he's bringing a gorgeous, clean line that feels grounded and realistic as befits an espionage book while delivering all the dynamic, thrilling action that you could want in a comic book.

Triana Farrell is coloring. She's just awesome. I've worked with her on a couple of books, including Mech Cadet Yu, and she's got a great eye for surprising, exciting color choices that totally work. She's giving every scene distinctive atmosphere and electricity.

Ariana Maher is lettering, and she's fantastic. We've got a variety of voices in the book, and I can't wait to see how she explores them.

And my old buddy Nate Cosby is editing. I worked with Nate on dozens of Hulk and Hercules books back in the day and always jump on the chance to work with him whenever he calls. He's pushing me hard, helping me take the story to the next level every step of the way. We're telling an espionage story with a great mystery and plenty of twists and turns, so we're stress-testing it at every stage to make all of the big reveals and thrills pay off in the best of ways.
