Staff Picks (March): Harbinger Wars 2 #1

Ahh the crossover event. That illustrious staple of comics that presents a foe so large it takes all our favorite heroes to come together or duke it out in order to save the day. Originally the idea was that the mega crossover would do something so huge and momentous, they’d leave an indelible mark on the entire line for months or years to come. Too many publishers ignore that part of the event (the ramifications) these days and focus on hype, but not Valiant. When these guys say something will shake the foundations of their shared-U, they mean it. That’s why I am excited to see the fallout of Harbinger Wars 2 #1 in this month’s PREVIEWS. HWII ushers the return of X-O to Earth and pits Bloodshot and Ninjak against Peter Stanchek and his band of Renegades in what they are promising to be the “most shocking, most violent, and most consequential clash of powers ever witnessed in the history of the Valiant Universe.” That sounds like an epic showdown of the biggest and baddest players in the VU. I’m looking forward to reading a good old-fashioned punch you in the face event that leaves real scars across the characters. I’ll be pre-ordering the 40-page bundle edition on this bad boy. Well played, Valiant… Well played.
