Staff Picks (June): Hardcore Akan #1

As far as action movies go, no movie is more jaw-clenchingly extreme than Hardcore Henry. Filmed from the first-person perspective, Hardcore Henry is recognized for its different approach to the genre. That different approach also led to leaving many details a mystery regarding the main antagonist, Akan.

Hardcore Akan #1 winds the clocks back to tell Akan’s story. In this official prequel written by the film’s director, Ilya Naishuller, along with Brian Phillipson and Will Stewart, readers are served an origin story littered with hints towards the overall picture presented in the movie. Akan is fleshed out with detail that did not make it into the final cut, but can also be read without any prior story knowledge. However, if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll be rewarded with additional content.
