Staff Pick (August11): Snarked #1
Jul 22, 2011
Let me be the first to say that I'm so bored of Alice in Wonderland. 'Oh, the little blond child Alice follows the white rabbit!' 'Oh, the twisted version of little Alice drinks from strange bottles!'
I put all that cynicism on hold for Roger Langridge, though. He was the talent behind those awesome Muppet comics from BOOM! What's more, his new series is also from their kids imprint which has proven time and again that it has the grace to treat kids' comics like grown-up's comics: satisfying plot, layered characterization, and excellent art.
The Walrus and the Carpenter are a pair of bumbling con artists, and the king is missing. The royal siblings Scarlet and Rusty pick a careful path through Wonderland court intrigue, and rope the rogues into an adventure with cabbages and kings! Best of all, there's no Alice.
Oh my stars and garters. I'm sold. It's like somebody found out it was my Un-Birthday! If you're not an oyster, you should buy a copy. If you are an oyster, buy three.
