Staff Pick (March11): Honey West: Anne Francis Commemorative Edition

I’m a big fan of 60’s spies, be it novels, movies, or television shows. Outside of The Avengers and The Man from UNCLE, one of my must-watch shows was Honey West starring the blonde personification of G.G. Fickling’s character. Anne Francis from Forbidden Planet’s Altaira to Riptide’s Mama Jo commanded attention as a glamour queen and as an actress. In Moonstone’s Honey West: Anne Francis Commemorative Edition, the actress is remembered for her starring role as super sleuth and femme fatale Honey West.

In this reprint of the sold out issues #1 and 2, writer Trina Robbins and artist Cynthia Martin do an excellent job of capturing the essence of Francis, Honey, and the sixties. The dialogue rings with that 60s tone while the art blends today’s techniques with 60s pop art sensibility. This is a comic I’m glad to add to my collection of comics and DVD next to my Gold Key Steed & Peel, The Man from UNCLE, and the Gold Key Honey West comic.

Having lost too many friends and family to cancer, I appreciate that Moonstone is donating part of their revenue for every American Cancer Society edition they sell.
