CINEFEX #116 JAN 2009
The magazine about special effects in today's films returns with articles on five of the biggest films coming to theaters in the coming year! David Fincher adapts F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt. Born an old man, Benjamin ages in reverse, becoming younger with each passing year, requiring state-of-the-art visual effects. Daniel Craig returns as James Bond, seeking revenge for the death of a former lover while on the trail of intrigue and corruption in Italy, Austria and South America in Quantum of Solace. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, adapted from J.K. Rowling's fantasy novel, pits her teenage wizards against the emotional turmoil of adolescence, while revealing the origins of Harry Potter's arch nemesis, the Dark Lord Voldemort. Finally, coverage of The Day the Earth Stood Still, an updated remake of the 1951 classic, stars Keanu Reeves as an intergalactic emissary with a warning for earth's leaders, and director Baz Luhrmann's Australia, an epic romance centered around a pre-World War II cattle drive, round out the issue.
