Banned in many countries following its release in 1970,
Mark of the Devil (or the original German title,
Hexen bis aufs Blut gequält) stars Udo Kier (
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein, Dracula) as Count Christian von Meruh, the witch hunter apprentice to Lord Cumberland (Herbert Lom). Kier's character is a devout believer in the ways of his mentor and of the Church, but that all changes when he discovers Lord Cumberland murdering a man who insulted him. The blinders fall away as he realizes that the witch trials are nothing but a way to seduce women, and rob the people of their land and money. Can von Meruh escape with his faith - and life - intact? Each copy of the DVD includes a souvenir vomit bag, just like the one handed to moviegoers over 40 years ago!
