Everything you Need To Know About 'Wrong Earth: Fame & Fortune'
Feb 22, 2022
Starting this month, Ahoy Comics presents a series of reality-shattering one-shots within the Wrong Earth multiverse!
Back in 2019, Ahoy Comics released the series Wrong Earth! A crisis on two Earths that highlighted the stark differences between two alt-world counterparts: Dragonfly and Dragonflyman - one unrelenting and brutish (think Ben Affleck's Batman) and the other a campy crusader (think: Adam West's Batman). Ultimately, these two mirror images would see their realities collide, but that's just the beginning...
In the following interview, writer Mark Russell gives a glimpse into the openly satirical world of Wrong Earth. Where it's been, where it's going, and what audiences can expect! Here's everything you need to know...
For those unfamiliar, what is the concept behind the overall Wrong Earth series?
The conceit is that there's Dragonfly, a gritty superhero from a Dark Knight Returns sort of bleak universe, and Dragonflyman, who's the same hero, but in more of a Batman '66 type world, and they cross over into each other's universes. With, I might add, hilarious results.
How did you get involved with Wrong Earth?
Tom Peyer asked me to write one. And even after I told him my story idea, he still somehow agreed to it.
What is the story inside Wrong Earth: Fame & Fortune?
Fame & Fortune takes place before they cross over into each other universes. And it tells the story of the Richard Fame of both universes trying to build a football stadium. It's about how it sometimes doesn't matter if your intentions are good or not, some omelettes are just not worth all the eggs you have to break to make them.
Who is Wrong Earth: Fame & Fortune for?
Fans of urban planning and renewal, I suppose.
Who do you prefer writing more? Dragonfly or Dragonflyman?
It's sort of a trick question because the answer is Dragonfly, but only because he's so funny when he stands in contrast to Dragonflyman.
What will Wrong Earth fans get out of this?
I think they get a little more of the backdrop to the story. More about who these men are and what kind of worlds they come from. And how those two worlds are more similar than either would care to admit.
