On Friday, December 3, 2021, Julien’s Auctions is hosting the sale of archival material, memorabilia, and personal ephemera, in the Property from the Estate of Mel Blanc sale.

Known as the Man of a Thousand Voices, Blanc provided the voices for classic cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, and so many more. Throughout his career, he voiced more than 1,000 characters in over 5,000 cartoons.

Among the key pieces in the aution is a late 1950s Sony C-37A free-standing tube condenser microphone used by Blanc for decades. A brown leather bomber jacket made for Blanc featuring an N. Gamarello hand-painted image of a blonde pin-up as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig with the text reading “What’s Up Doc” is offered.

There’s his 1942 Warner Bros. employee ID card and a collection of 300 note pages from the 1960s-1980s with dialogue, jokes, story ideas, and more. A 1962 contract for The Jetsons and a 1965 contract for an Alice in Wonderland Special is listed in the auction. From his ’88 autobiography That’s Not All Folks, they have a box of loose-leaf photocopied pages, printed book with Blanc’s signature on the title page, and more.

Blanc’s ledgers, date books and address books from the 1940s-1970s, referencing the likes of Joe Barbera, Judy Canova, Gary Cooper, Bobby Darin, Kirk Douglas, Bill Hanna, Howard Hawks, Bob Kane, Don Knotts, Jack Palance, Vincent Price, Jill St. John, and Leslie Uggams, among many others, is also in the auction.

“Mel Blanc was a master of his craft and one of the most influential and legendary voice acting pioneers in the Golden Age of Hollywood animation, whose long and illustrious career we may never see the likes of again,” Julien’s Auctions Executive Director/CFO Martin Nolan said. “We are proud to offer these artifacts and personal items directly from his Estate that provide an incredible look into the creativity and mind of his genius and the development of the greatest cartoon characters in the world.”
