CW Confirms New Batwoman Series
May 08, 2019
Who’s ready to go back to Gotham?
Ruby Rose made her superhero debut as Batwoman earlier this year on The CW during the network’s three-episode “Elseworlds” DC crossover event. It was a memorable appearance, just big enough to make us hunger for more, really. So, we’re particularly excited to announced that The CW has just given the green light to a new Batwoman series once again starring Rose as Batman’s cousin, Kate Kane.
Today, The CW launched official accounts for the series on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and shared an announcement video giving us one of our best looks yet at the small screen’s newest superhero.
While there are other LGBTQ+ heroes and villains within DC’s quickly growing universe of TV shows, Batwoman will be the first superhero show to feature an openly gay character as its lead. According to the show’s logline, Batwoman will follow Rose’s Kane as “she soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
