Hake’s Auctions is kicking off 2019 with an online comics auction, opening on January 14. The sale houses 285 lots of Golden to Modern Age comics, mostly third party certified, with many first appearances and keys.

The four books that’ll instigate bidding wars among collectors are Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 3.0 (first Spider-Man), Amazing Spider-Man #1 CBCS 4.5 (first J. Jonah Jameson and Chameleon), X-Men #1 CGC 4.5 (first X-Men and Magneto), and Batman #121 CBCS 4.0 (first Mr. Freeze).

Dominated by Marvel titles, the auction features many examples from Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. Some of those keys include Amazing Spider-Man #39 CGC 8.0 (Norman Osborn revealed as Green Goblin) and #648 CGC 9.8 Signature Series signed sketch cover by J. Scott Campbell, Fantastic Four #49 CGC 4.5 (first full Galactus appearance) and #52 CGC 6.5 (first Black Panther), and X-Men #4 CGC Qualified 7.0 (first Brotherhood of Evil Mutants) and #102 CGC 9.8 (origin of Storm).

There are also multiple lots of Avengers, Daredevil, Journey into Mystery, Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Comics, Red Ryder Comics, Tales of Suspense, Tales to Astonish, and Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories.

Some in-demand Modern books along with Signature Series examples featured in the auction are Amazing Spider-Man #361 CGC 9.0 (first Carnage) and #529 CGC 9.6 Signature Series (first Iron Spider) signed by Ron Garney and Michael Straczynsko with Spider-Man head sketch by Garney, Edge of Spider-Verse #2 CGC 9.8 (first Spider-Gwen), Infinity Gauntlet #1 CGC 9.4, Michael Turner’s: Fathom Ashcan #nn CGC 9.8, and Venom Vol. 2 #1 CGC 9.8 Signature Series signed by Tony Moore and Joe Quesada.

Other highlights are Avengers #196 CGC 9.6 (first Taskmaster), Daredevil #168 CGC 8.5 (first Elektra), Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Comics #16 CGC 6.0, Red Ryder Comics #71 CGC 8.5, Richie Rich Money World #1 CGC 9.6, Whiz Comics #13 CGC Restored 4.0, and The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #1 and #3 signed cover proofs.
