Last fall Star Wars collectors were wowed by the exceptional material offered in the Star Wars Collection of Russell Branton at Hake’s Americana & Collectibles. Now, the auction house is rolling out Part II of Branton’s collection with 75 lots of Star Wars memorabilia.

The lots in this portion of the auction comprise a variety of material and price ranges for collectors. “With the selection of items for the second round from the Branton collection, we stuck with the same formula as the first auction,” Hake’s President Alex Winter said. “We made sure to diversify what we put on the auction block so that all the different avenues of his collection were explored but without having too much of any one specific thing so all bidders have ample opportunity to bid on what they want for their collections. We did small samplings of things from all lines, series, grades, subject matter and more to keep it a select but impressive offering.”

First to cross the auction block will be lot 1982, the Darth Vader double telescoping 12-back-A AFA 70 Ex+. Part of the Kenner 1978 toy line, the double telescoping term is used to describe the lightsabers, which have double action telescoping.

Lot 1983 features the leading lady of Star Wars with the Princess Leia Organa 12-back-A AFA 95 Mint. From the 1978 toy line, this example comes with an unpunched card. Collector’s note, it is a 12-back-A, though it was mislabeled by AFA as a “B”.

Our favorite smuggler is in lot 1984, the Han Solo 12-back-C AFA 90 NM+/MT (large head). Also from the 1978 line, this action figure comes on a card that has been punched.

Lot 1989 houses the galaxy’s best copilot with the Chewbacca 7-inch series AFA 85 NM+. This piece from Takara’s 1978 toy line was exclusively made for the Japanese market. It is just one of four characters produced for this Japanese series.

Lot 2013 contains a Power of the Force – Nikto 92-back AFA 80 Y-NM. This toy includes Nikto and mismatched Warok aluminum collectors coin from the 1985 toy line on an unpunched card.

Lots 2022 and 2023 feature Revenge of the Jedi proof cards for Luke Skywalker (Bespin fatigues) AFA 90 NM+/MT and Princess Leia AFA 90 NM+/MT. Though the Revenge title wasn’t used, the proofs were printed, so after the title was changed, all merchandise was changed to the Return of the Jedi title, making these cards the closest collectors can get to Revenge of the Jedi action figures. Both cards have unpunched cards with “Free! Nien Nunb” action figure offer.

The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader special offer bounty hunters case AFA 75 EX+/NM is in lot 2038. From the 1980 toy line, this 32-back figural plastic action figure “Collector’s Case” is a rare special offer case that includes the bounty hunters IG-88, Bossk, and Boba Fett.

Budding pilots can fly through the galaxy with the X-Wing Fighter AFA 80 NM in lot 2039. The box contains “1 X-Wing Fighter Spaceship with Flashing ‘Laser’ Light and Space Sound!” from the 1978 toy line.

Lot 2045 contains the Return of the Jedi Imperial Shuttle Vehicle AFA 85 NM+. From the 1983 toy line, the box advertises that the “Imperial Shuttle Comes with Laser Battle Sounds.”

In addition to these collectibles, Hake’s will offer R5-D4 and Hammerhead 20-backs, three-pack series sets, Rebel Commander and AT-AT Driver 45-backs, Popy Death Star Droid, Wicket and Teebo 79-backs, Power of the Force Paploo and Luke 92-backs, Power of the Force Admiral Ackbar and Prune Face proof cards, Star Wars: Droids figures, Ben Kenobi and C-3PO 12-inch series figures, Patrol Dewback, Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer action playset, and Land Speeder die-cast 12-back, among others.

In November, the first round from the Star Wars Collection of Russell Branton attributed to the company’s highest selling auction, netting impressive results. As dozens more figures, vehicles, and other toys hit the auction block, Scoop asked the team at Hake’s how Branton himself felt about the sale. “Russell could not have been happier with the results,” Hake’s Consignment Manager Kelly McClain said. “His first reaction after the auction closed was, ‘We just hit a grand slam! I can’t wait to see what happens in round 2!’ With the record breaking prices and incredible response from the bidders I could not agree more.”

In upcoming weeks, Scoop will report more on the Boba Fett rocket-firing prototype (L-slot) action figure and non-Star Wars graded toys and figures from Branton’s collection. Bidding is now open at hakes.com and the auction ends on March 13-15, 2018.
