Staff Picks (March): Mindbender #1

Article Image 8a9b

It’s a sunny day at the local fair.  There are balloons and rides and popcorn.  A seven-year-old boy walks hand in hand with his mother and father.  It’s just an ordinary day until an ancient, unknown power awakens inside the boy, leveling the fair in a catastrophic explosion.

Now a grown man, Alex has been hospitalized in a catatonic state since that day sixteen years prior.  He is the subject of study, curiosity, and interest from those who might use his power for their own ends.  But like the power that has slept dormant in the human race until the day that ruined Alex’s life, Alex himself cannot be taken advantage of or properly analyzed until he awakens.

When Alex finally opens his eyes and speaks his first words in nearly two decades, the result is beyond a mere destructive force.  We see into a mind that has silently communed with this mysterious power, reaching to the outer edges of space and into the depths of human consciousness, expanding understanding and likely growing into madness.

From veteran writer, James Pruett, formerly of Caliber Comics and now manning the helm at Scout Comics, and artist Federico De Luca, Mindbender promises to live up to its name.
