Staff Picks (August): Big Trouble In Little China/Escape From New York #1
Jul 29, 2016
Like old Jack says, when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake, and the Porkchop Express crosses over into an alternate reality in a flash of lightning, just look that big storm right square in the eye and say, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.”
With the full blessing of director John Carpenter, two iconic heroes turned cult classics thanks to Kurt Russell, a mullet, an eyepatch and a few machine guns, are about to collide. It all starts when Jack Burton drives his beloved truck into the dystopian “future” of Snake Plissken’s 1997 – isn’t that the same year Skynet originally went online? What’s with you, 1997? When Snake finds out a man is running around with his same face, he goes gunning for Jack and shenanigans ensue, launching a savage road trip across a post-apocalyptic America to learn what weird magic has pulled Jack across worlds.
BOOM’s take on Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China has been so true to the spirit of the work and everything that made 1980s action flicks so awesome that it seemed there really was no way to improve on a good thing. Turns out, there is, you just double your dose of Kurt Russell with an awesome crossover event penned by Greg Pak and drawn by Daniel Bayliss.
